As a Church of England School, our core aim is underpinned by our mission:

‘To help each child flourish as we believe they are all unique and a gift from God’

This is rooted in our belief that Jesus came so that everyone can flourish and have ‘life in all its fullness’. At Heworth we want to support and fuel this so that all children can have a full life and know how precious, wonderful and unique they are.

‘I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness.’
(John 10v10b)

‘I praise you because I am wonderfully made.’
(Psalm 139v14a)

We're committed to developing highly motivated, independent young people with a wide-ranging and life-long love of learning.

Our four core Christian values of forgiveness, trust, compassion and endurance are woven through the life of the school, and we use them to help create a rich learning environment for all of our pupils, whatever their needs.

TrustTrust

Trust is the basis of all good relationships, including a persons’ relationship with God. It will grow through shared experiences rooted in honesty and reliability.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” John 14:1

CompassionCompassion

Compassion is responding to the feelings and actions of others with kindness. Jesus was often “moved with compassion” and acted accordingly. Compassion leads to a desire to do something good for someone else.

“You must love your neighbour as you love yourself.” Luke 10:27b

EnduranceEndurance

Jesus followers are challenged to think of life like a race. However - NOT a short sprint but a marathon! The bible says that we are made stronger for the future every time we endure and refuse to give up.

"You know that many runners take part in a race, but only one of them wins the prize. Run, then, in such a way as to win the prize."

1 Corinthians 9:24

ForgivenessForgiveness

Jesus example puts forgiveness at the centre of all we do. Showing forgiveness requires us to have courage and strength, bringing freedom from anger and a sense of peace. Forgiveness means that we take responsibility for what we have done and we try not to do it again.

“Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.” Matthew 6:12

The Archbishop's Prayer

In May 2016, we were visited by Archbishop Sentamu who signed a prayer that he wrote especially for Heworth which encompasses our values.  We use this prayer at times in our Collective Worship.
